Jacque is a physics graduate student planning to complete his master’s in May of 2016. He currently serves as the Vice President of our Graduate Student Organization (GSO) as well as being GSO’s physics representative. In addition, Jacque works closely with UL’s LIFE (learning is for everyone) program as a social mentor. After graduation, Jacque would like to pursue a Ph.D. in accelerator physics with the ultimate goal of opening his own lab.

Congratulations Jacque! Good luck with your future endeavors and continue to dream big!

What level of degree are you pursuing and in which field of study?
I am pursuing my master's degree in physics and hoping to graduate in May this semester.

What groups and/or activities have you been involved in on campus?
I am Vice President of the Graduate Student Organization as well as their Physics representative, and I am lucky enough to be a social mentor in the LIFE (learning is for everyone) program. These programs do so much to enrich my experience at UL that I feel very fortunate to be involved and it’s just great that I am surrounded by such fantastic people.

What are your plans after graduation?
I would like to go into a physics program for my Ph.D. in accelerator physics, and one day even run my own national lab with a particle accelerator. There is so much good that can be done with particle accelerators, and I would like to be able to make the world a little bit better in this way.

If you were to return to UL in 5-10 years, what changes/improvements would you like to see?
In 5-10 years I am hoping that the Louisiana Accelerator Center (LAC) is used more for undergraduate and graduate research. It would be fantastic for anyone in any other major to come and tour there, that they may see the wonder of particle accelerators in action and hopefully realize the devices’ potential. We have a very special resource that many other states do not have and the applications are endless, not only in physics but also in many related fields.

What is your fondest memory while attending school at UL?
My fondest memories are of the Mondays and Wednesdays when I walk into the LIFE program's classroom. I am always greeted by a group friends that are just so happy to see me. I give everyone a fist bump as a greeting and some fist pounds become explosions while others end with a sly grin; but the experience is always so positive. LIFE is a great program and I am grateful to have met a group of friends who are so accepting of who I am even if I don't make the healthiest choices when it comes to food.
