LIFE is a highly personalized program for young adults with intellectual disabilities. By combining academic, life, and self-advocacy skills with socialization at the college level, young adults with intellectual disabilities can become thriving members of the community.

College-level elective courses, combined with professional or interpersonal studies tracks, all center around the practice of learning by doing. LIFE Mentors work closely with each student to customize their courses and college experience so they're prepared for a career they love. Academic mentors accompany students every step of the way, including going to class, modifying in-class assignments, and providing support for out-of-class assignments and homework. Students spend about four hours on campus for four days every week. That time on campus gives students the time to explore the four different program areas: academics, essential skills, career exploration, and independent living.

LIFE students earn a certificate of completion from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. That certificate shows that our students successfully participated in a combination of LIFE required coursework and auditing UL Lafayette classes. Each student completes four to five semesters, but is limited to 36 credit hours. All LIFE students receive essential life skills instruction. Our staff works with our students to develop essential living skills so they can live as independently as possible after graduation. Instruction takes place in the classroom and across campus.
