STEP Service Definitions

Open-Use STEP laboratory:  a STEP funded room that has 5 or more win domain registered, standard or performance model tablet, laptop, or desktop computing hardware.  This room must be open to UL Lafayette registered students for 90% of its operating hours.  The remaining 10% will offer software training and tutoring with a schedule posted outside the lab and on the Student Government Associations (SGA) website.

Instructional STEP Laboratory:  a STEP funded room that has 5 or more win domain registered, standard or performance model tablet, laptop, or desktop computing hardware.  This room must be open to UL Lafayette registered students for 20% of its operating hours (course specific).  The remaining 80% is available to the sponsoring department to schedule courses.  A schedule must be posted outside the room and website.

STEP SMART Classroom: a STEP funded room designed to enhance instruction with a dynamic presentation system (DPS).  The DPS is defined by the STEP Sustainability Advisory Council and approved by the Chief Information Officer.  This definition will be updated once a year and posted on the SGA site.

STEP TEC Classroom: a STEP funded room equipped with hardware designed for alternative teaching styles.  There is a list of items that the Principal Investigator (PI) can select and customize for deployment.  These items will be defined by the STEP Sustainability Advisory Council and approved by the Chief Information Officer.  This definition will be updated once a year and posted on the SGA site.

Digital Signage: an information presentation system that provides real time information about campus services.  Allows for outside advertisement related to employment, food and beverage, and other events relevant to students.  The program displays on Open-Use laboratory computers, interactive kiosks, and numerous monitors around campus.  The program also broadcasts Emergency Notifications and can be used to send instant messages to all "Logged in" customers on campus.

PSA Staff: the staff consists of undergraduate and graduate students.  Responsibilities include the monitoring of Print Service Area's (PSA) that support Open-Use laboratories.  Each student will have to perform at least 2 training seminars related to their area of study during the semester.  In addition, professional development seminar participation is encouraged for resume building projects.

Professional Writing Internship: these position are assigned from the English department.  The primary role of this positon is the creation of content and dissemination of information relevant to students.
