How nice would it be to have the programs and services of the STEP Labs available to you on the go with your own devices? With VDI, this could someday be possible! VDI, also known as virtual desktop infrastructure allows users to access a virtual computer using an Internet browser or local software installed on any computer. If installed on campus, it would make it much easier for students and teachers to take advantage of educational software. Students and professors will be able to access these tools using their own personal laptops and tablets.

Although it may be awhile before you see the effects of VDI, the Office of STEP Support (OSS) is currently working on introducing the virtual desktop interface on campus. Through several trials, OSS student workers hope to gain feedback from students on the pros and cons of VDI. The workers will use the student feedback to one day successfully implement VDI on UL’s campus.
