UL Lafayette provides lounge areas for student use across campus. These areas are designed for students to unwind or complete schoolwork in a relaxed environment. A random group of students were selected to complete a short survey about these areas.

Of the twenty-five students who completed the survey, 56 percent of them actually utilize the lounge areas. The other 44 percent of students of students stated they did not use these spaces. There was an even mix of the amount of time students visited the lounges across campus, the figure below shows these results.

There are many aspects of the lounges that the students enjoy. Majority of the students think these spaces are a great place to hang out and relax between classes. They also noted that some of the best lounge areas are quiet and have many outlets for charging devices. On the other hand, students pointed out many downsides of the lounges as well. A popular answer to the question about what students dislike about the lounge areas was that the spaces were outdated and cramped.

Students were then asked to lists what they believe should be improved in the lounges. The most common improvement was adding more seating. Other improvement ideas were more vending machines, charging stations, and bulletin boards. One student suggested additional “quiet zone” lounges to aid the students who work better with the least amount of noise.

In the end, all of the students surveyed admitted that they would use the lounges if they offered more services. Before finishing the survey, the students were asked to check off the boxes of suggested improvements they would like to see made within the lounges. The choices were: faster WiFi, wireless printing, more seating, and informative bulletin boards. The results from the checklist are listed below.
