Office 2016 is equipped with upgraded versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, One Note, Outlook, and Publisher. OneNote and Outlook especially have advanced features and layouts.

OneNote 2016 now takes on a different appearance when it is clicked upon. This new layout is user-friendly and easy to navigate. Individual sections that can be created are now displayed at the top of the screen and corresponding pages are displayed on the right of the screen.  This makes for more space to write and type on the page itself. There are also many more options that you can choice regarding mechanics and additions and OneNote has seven tabs for this use. Located at the top of the top of the screen, the tabs are file, home, insert, draw, history, review, and view. These tabs are similar to the ribbon on Microsoft Word and have many of the same features. Previously, OneNote had four tabs: home, insert, draw, and view. Each of these tabs served a minimal purpose and only had basic functions. Overall, the layout of OneNote is practical and has similar features of other programs many users have worked on before, such as Microsoft Word. An option of sharing information is available on OneNote 2016 and it can collaborate with others using OneDrive and Office 365 Sharepoint. Exporting information on OneNote is another option to the user. Whole notebooks, or simply pages or sections can be exported as word documents, PDF’s, XPS’s, single file web pages, and OneNote sections. An in depth workup on OneNote will be conducted in the future to help students learn more about this innovative program.

Microsoft Outlook 2016 also has an improved layout. A ribbon now courses through the top of the screen and contains numerous features. The tabs on the ribbon are file, home, send/receive, folder, and view. A few of the features on these tabs are email filtering, composing new emails, making folders, and organizing content. The tabs containing mail, calendar, people, and tasks are displayed at the bottom left of the screen in the form of icons.

Office 365 is available for UL students for free, with the exception of Outlook because UL has not activated the Exchange server that Outlook requires. Please take advantage of these programs that could potentially become the future mainstream programs for students, faculty, and staff.
